I’ve lived at BMQ for 3 months, and it’s been the worst living situation of my life. My apartment overlooks the I-5 South on-ramp (probably less than 30 ft from it), and the traffic noise, especially during the hours of 4:00am – 8am, is unbearable. To give you an idea, the decibel level peaks as high as 85, equivalent to a blender running next to your ear. The noise of a usual sedan or SUV doesn’t bother me. It’s the motorcycles, buses, and louder motors speeding up the ramp. I’ve desperately tried to resolve this matter with management. They offered to move me to a different unit, but prefaced it by saying that I had the best location and they didn’t think I would be better off on a different side of the building. The apartments were also more expensive, and due to costly medical treatments that I’m undergoing, my budget is maxed. After 3 months of this, I’m in chronic sleep deprivation and my health is suffering. I’ve taken on extra business trips to be able to get away and sleep in hotels. The greatest disappointment is that management doesn’t seem to care. No empathy. Their initial response was for me to pay 12k to break my lease. Now they want 5k to break the lease. Given my experience here, although the building is lovely, I would not recommend it. I’ve lived in many other buildings in Downtown SD and Downtown LA. Never experienced this level of noise. Something is definitely off.
